House Z

Right from the beginning our clients had a clear picture in mind for there dreamhouse on the newly acquired piece of land; A sleek contemporary home with great views to the outdoors and plenty of daylight.

On a location where encounters between different architectural styles, traffic routes and sightlines take place, it was the task of AR to create a living space which connects fully with the wishes of the client and its location.

Dynamic living
In order to proceed with the dynamics from the environment into the designconcept we used the wall elements as discs in order to provide simplicity, privacy, and to create a dynamic floorplan. With a limited footprint on a relatively large plot we chose for a 2-layered house, whereby the volume on the ground floor and the second floor has been given an extrusion in order to provide in the desired program. As a result, there arises a variation in mass, which is further enhanced by the use of materials with wooden strips versus white plaster.

As a structure we chose a hybrid construction system with walls and roofs of wooden framing, concrete flooring and some steel profiles. This principle, together with a high-quality installation and insulation, ensured a good balance between comfort and durability.

Layout
Once you enter the spacious hall, which provides storage for the coats and toilet, you notice all the spaciousness of the house by the high ceilings and the large amount of glass. From the hallway you walk to the double garage or towards the living area. Upon entering the L-shaped living room you look directly into the surrounding area. There are non partitions made, making this a great living space with always having contact with the environment and its inhabitants. When you go through the stairwell with skylight upwards you see the great attention to detail. The casted floor even continues on to the stairs. From the hall upstairs you enter the master bedroom which offers space for a walk-in closet and a large bathroom. From this room we created a panoramic view which also makes this a great connection to the surrounding area. The rest of this floor offers place to a separate toilet, two bedrooms and an extra bathroom.
